Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard
Are sweeter; therefore, ye soft pipes, play on;
Not to the sensual ear, but, more endear'd,
Pipe to the spirit ditties of no tone:
Fair youth, beneath the trees, thou canst not leave
Thy song, nor ever can those trees be bare;
Bold Lover, never, never canst thou kiss,
Though winning near the goal—yet, do not grieve;
She cannot fade, though thou hast not thy bliss,
For ever wilt thou love, and she be fair!

들리는 선율은 아름답지만, 들리지 않는 것이
더 아름답다. 그러니 감미로운 피리들아, 계속 불어라
육체의 귀에는 불지 말고, 더욱 사랑스럽게
곡조없는 노래를 영혼에게 불어라
나무 아래의 아름다운 젊은이여, 그대는 그칠 수 없으리
그대의 노래를, 또한 저 나무들의 잎사귀들도 없어질 수 없으리
담대한 연인이여, 결코 결코 그대는 입맞출 수 없으리
비록 목표한 바를 얻는데 가까이는 갈지라도 -- 허나 슬퍼하진 말라
그녀는 시들지 않으리니, 비록 그대가 기쁨은 가지지 못한다 하더라도.
영원히 그대는 사랑할 것이며 그녀는 아름다울것이니!

말하지 않은 사랑이 더 아름답다.
도를 도라고 말하는 순간 더이상 도가 아닌 것처럼
사랑을 사랑이라고 말하는 순간 더이상 이전의 사랑이 아니다.
